My grandfather always maintained that a good winter snowfall was good for the land. He called it " the poor mans fertilizer."
Was this a myth or does the formation of snow flakes attach to nitrogen atoms/molecules in the atmosphere and thereby add N to the land?

Does anyone know?

Snow brings nitrogen down, but so does rain. All my plants look better immediately after a rain, better than they do if I ran the irrigation on them. The benefit seems to be short-lived, and in my area at least, infrequent.

check out Tom Beachys diary from a couple years back, he has a picture of an amish farmer plowing his field when it is snowing.

Correct...Snow fixes atmospheric N & delivers it to Earth.

When you start talking about a keg, that brings to mind a way to add highly concentrated nitrogen to your patch..........

That it right and parts of Ontario got up to four feet of the nitrogen laced powder. I'm glad I live on the west coast
