Was looking at the auction schedule for this season and was just wondering if the the BP seed auction last year gave BP all the need funds to do all the updates that were needed. Ken may need to chime in on this. Is there still any needs "equipment wise" that could make any additional improvements. We need to take good care of what is one of the best resources we have at our disposal.
Just my 2 cents worth anyway.

I have been hearing all kinds of stuff about new servers, annual/monthly costs, etc. Is there any help needed Ken? Donations? I would hate to have this become a members only thing; I think it would deter new growers.

To Everyone
Where would any of us be without BP.C ? No where.
We would be back in the eighties with phone calls, letters, high degree of difficuly with communication and learning.
Area and regional weighoffs would not be as available to us as they are today simply because we would not know of them.
if you needed an answer to a question you might never get it. On bp? you will get several to choose from.
Just getting started in the hobby? You would have a much longer road to travel without BP.C and it sharing community of growers.
i know the SNGPG and OAF would have never been what it is today without this present form of communication and information sharing.
There would never have been a reason for DT2 simply because there would be no way to reach the people the booklet was intended to help.
The Wallaces ( and the SNGPG for that matter ), will support with seed or donation any fundraising effors on behalf of BP.C
With the SNGPG MEMBER SEED PROMO, THE O A FOUNDATION , plus taking care of the DT 2 shipping i have my hands full however, we will support anyone with the seeds we have available should they wish to head up a auction to benefit BP.C
id guess that an auction of this type and for this benefit would quite possibly bring the biggest audience and result of any this winter.
REMEMBER HOW YOU FELT WHEN ON OCCASION YOU COULD NOT SIGN ONTO BP.C ? NOW IMMAGINE IF YOU COULD NEVER SIGN ON?

Ken - I'm sure there is a time and money factor involved with all of this. Don't have a ton of money right now but I have 12+ years of web development experience so I'm more than willing to help in any way to keep bp.com going strong.

If I can offer any Administrative help, I'd be willing to offer the time necessary to put together the auction. Whatever you need Ken, give a holler!

Tom and others took care of last year's auction and did a great job. I am sure Ken could think of something to buy or recover costs on. I know he has been extremely busy with work. One thing that would help is if you have any marketable seeds to spare, donate them when asked. Last year's auction was late winter. Start digging through your collections.

Just an idea, but what about a seed raffle? I think sometimes in auctions, the "little guys" do not feel that they have a chance, so they do not even bid. In the raffle though, everyone has a chance. Just a thought. -Jeremy

Thanks everyone. Perhaps towards the end of the auction season we can put together a BP auction. Right now I am focusing on finding a place to move the servers to. It will be tough going from free to $150 or $200 a month for hosting. I got one new server from last year's auction and the rest of the money is going to go towards the hosting.

This is what Im talking about folks, nothing is free anymore these days. Takes time and money to operate a site. The proceeds of an auction can go towards equipment, operational costs or whatever is needed to make this site better and better. And like pap says, to make sure that BP is HERE for all to utilize.
Whom ever ends up organizing it, if you need another set of hands to help just give me a gingle.
