I been looking around for some poles(light weight) to use for my tripod this year instead of using the heavy wooden 4x4's that I have been using. Every year it seems like its getting tougher and tougher to move that heavy thing, maybe I just need to get back in shape, lol.
For you guys using the poles, where did you find yours at and what do you think Id pay for 3 of them? I have a scrap yard that is near by and told them to call me last year if they come across any, so far no luck, they haven't received any for the height that I need.

For your wood tripod, you do take it apart each time, correct?
At least for mine, I move it one leg at a time, which is indeed a chore, but at least it's possible.

No, I leave my three 4x4 legs together when moving it. Its way to much work and time consuming to move it a leg at a time, then set it all up again. I'M looking for the poles because they are 10 times lighter and they will be 10 times easier to move all at one time, and I wont bust a nut moving it,lol

Try calling a rigging company, they might be willing to sell some old ones. The poles they used at New Bremen would be ideal...might get in contact with Jeff Wells and see what company he used.

OK, well, mine is here:

Up on top is simply a metal bar, about one-inch thick. It just slides in and out, so it's easy to pull the whole thing apart and move it one leg at a time. I can't imagine trying to move it, "alone", doing it all three legs at once.
Even though there are no nuts holding the bar in place, when it's all setup it ain't going anywhere... very stable.
I actually wanted to use poles as well, but I wasn't finding the material that I needed. Good luck.

Brooks it's time to retire your Superhero status and move those 4x4s 1 at a time or get some help. Believe me when I tell you. You really, really don't want to herniate a disk.

Brooks, I had a Tripod made from fencing pipe....it was so heavy we needed a team of people to move it. I'm sticking with the 4x4's

lol!!!, Quinn Werner moves his entire set up (4x4's) with ease mostly all of the time by himself, and with his boots on hes lucky to be 165 lbs at the most, but yet again the guy is in great shape, a tad older then me, and has that Bruce Lee type persona to em,,,look at him wrong and he caves your face in.,,lol. I think I just need to get rid of the beer gut and get back and shape, and quit crying about moving a couple little wood posts around, Ha!

It's a lot easier to pull the top steel bar than get back in shape! Oh well, someday you'll be 40-something as well.....
