What's the item number for the auction? This way people can view the auction listing.

Wonderful Ebay, the world's largest fencing operation for stolen goods and large scale front for bogus sellers selling knock-offs and misbranded merchandise.
My advice is to just not shop there. Ebay is totally lousy with phony sellers and Ebay refuses to police them for fear they will lose a sale....

My department ordered two 2-way radios from a seller on ebay. The accompanying photo showed two flawless radios. When we received them they were scratched up terrible and had mud on them. Definitely not the radios in the photos. The charger for one did not work. No reflection on ebay I guess but definitely a lousy seller. Paypal helped us get our money back.

1567 huh? How odd that the fifth largest fruit of all time somehow sneaked right past our ever watchful eyes.

If you do a search for Giant Pumpkin Seeds, someone from Canada is using a picture of Joe Jutras. Wonder if he knows?

I contacted the seller of those seeds and asked who grew the pumpkin they came from and where. Below is the response I got from him.
"Hi. I personally grew them in California using NO chemical fertilizers. 100% organically grown. The original seed stock came from Osborne Seeds over 5 years ago and were bread by me for their size, shape, weight, and shade. Thanks."

Wow some guy/gal from CA set a state record growing all organic and didn't tell us about it. I am sure he/she had to be proud of their accomplishment I would love to hear about how they did it.
I would love to talk to this person we are scheduling speakers for Niagara and this would fit in nicely with with Jeff Rosenfels our key note speaker. How do I get in touch with this person? Will this person contact me?
We shouldn't be so hasty to discredit this person maybe they are shy. Maybe they don't want to share how they get their organics, maybe they are so full of #$%* that they do not need any other organics for their patch.

I asked the seller if they had a picture and what the cross was, and here was the answer I got:
"The photo of the 1567 pounder is the 2nd one down in my listing. The cross Dill's on Dill's. Thanks"

Those seeds don't even look like they came from an AG that was anymore than 300 pounds at best by their size. They look alot like seeds from a 294 pounder I grew from generic seed.

I emailed the seller with quite a few questions and recieved the following response;
"I grew it myself and weighed with my neighbors animal scale. Pollination was from Dill's as well."

Good grief, look at his feedback--- some poor suckers are actually buying his seeds. There has got to be a way to warn people. I have other hobbies and this happens with them at an alarming rate, photography = fake equipment and products, others are selling cars that belong to other people. Ebay only cares if they don't get their cut. Think about it, most non pumpkin growers have no idea about weighoffs and wouldn't know how to check the seeds out. It seems obvious only to us and that's what makes me so angry with the criminals that operate Ebay

we tried to get a seller on eBay two years ago to take his "fake seed" auction down.. wow what a headache.. eBay was little help...Steve contacted the seller and eBay about his "fake seed"auction and tried time and time again to get this guy to pull his auction. I even bought some of his seeds just to see for my self....what a joke here's a picture from my 2006 Diary... AG seeds and the seeds the clown was selling can you tell which is which?

Ed,
Are you thinking about the guy who ripped off Bruce Whittier's pictures? He had Bruce's pumpkin, house, wife all in the auction. eBay never answered any of our complaints. Vince finally shut that guy down by listing his own seeds for almost free & pointing out the fraud in his own eBay auction ad. LOL

His newest listing says this "I DID not enter this into ANY competitions. I'm not into that stuff. It was crossed with Dill's." That was not said in the last lot he auctioned!

Hmm yeah when someone says "The cross [is] Dill's on Dill's" they don't know what they are talking about. 99% of people would think he's growing pickles.

Now this is funny. Never heard of thousands of seeds in an AG!
"There are pumpkins even BIGGER than this. The photo is the 2nd down in my listing. I grew it in Cali and weighed it on an animal scale. thousands of seeds"

Why do I enjoy this so much???
"Yes, I know there are pumpkins bigger than 1567 pounds. I am friends with most of the people who have grown them. However, I have never heard of you, or your 1567 pound pumpkin. Where was the media coverage? How did you learn to grow it? Who taught you how to do it? How did you grow the pumpkin in California if you are sending the seeds from Washington? Why aren't there any pictures with something to compare the size to?
I have also never seen a giant pumpkin contain thousands of seeds. Giant pumpkins contain hundreds of seeds, not thousands. I highly suspect you are selling fake giant pumpkin seeds and I highly recommend you stop before REAL giant pumpkin growers put a REAL dent in your eBay reputation."

Let me see if you did buy the seeds and they did ship to you then wouldn't you be able to find the seller that way?
If a club put their seeds up for sale on E-bay could they discredit this person in their posting?
I am sorry people but I really get a bad case of chapped a$% when someone steals pictures and make arbitrary weights to sell some field grown AG seeds. The growers and clubs of this fine sport work to hard to make ends meet to have some jerk take money and discredit our hard work.
How can we police this better?

I sent a message to each of the buyers warning them that these seeds were suspect. If anyone else has an e-bay ID, you can do the same. You can also do this to all bidders listed in the auctions when he puts them up again (they had been up several times already). This is the best way I can think to police this, since e-bay obviously won't.

Well, even an ebay scammer will back down if enough pressure is placed on them. This seller has backed away from the 1567 lb claim and is now just offering "record holder" seeds. Even the description has changed dramatically.
