Just wondering what people think are the best looking pumpkins grown this year. If you could name the cross and/or link a picture that would be great.

Darcy Sunlin's 546# prettiest pumpkin winner at Anamosa has to be the best I have ever seen. Perfect shape and brilliant, shiny orange. My son Jacob's 547# I think was a very close second. Just as bright orange, would have had more shine if we had wiped it down with olive oil. The shape just wasn't as perfect. Photos of both are in my photo gallery.

I am also a little biased, I believe my daughters 535.5 Savage(769 Lombardi X 1290 Poirier) was beautiful! http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=97630 The 598 Savage (1290 Poirier X 769 Lombardi), won the Canby HDA & made a spectacular boat! http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=98741 We also have some seed from our 1290 Poirier X 1689 Jutras cross. LongmontPete, Now that is a awesome looking pumpkin you have there ol bud, real nice shape and color! I like that one. But everyone knows that the ''icebreaker'' pumpkin is the stud of Colorado ,no matter what color it is,,,lol
And that 1102 is a Beauty! I think ole Joe Pukos is getting soft in his later years of growing pumpkins, hes been growing some really pretty pumpkins the last couple years,,, whats up with that Joe!,,ha!
I like growing the Rahe Pumpkins with the different cross's that he makes, and they all grow a awesome orange, I have just as much fun growing his variety pumpkins then I do growing the AG'S, kids love em and they sure are fun to watch grow. I always leave enough room for a couple of his seeds.

I'm a bit anal about this good looking pumpkin stuff. To make a judgment about whether a pumpkin is good looking, you first must have criteria to rate it by. For me, the top criteria are Shape, Color, Symmetry, Ribbing and Size. Also the girth and length of a pumpkin's Handle, just like a size of a man's is an obvious measure of its pumpkinhood.
Shape should be tall, symmetrical and roundish - overly long, low or flattened shapes beg the question: what is this a pumpkin or a blob? Color should be orange or red-orange with little or no cantalouping. Are we growing pumpkins or muskmelons here?
Ribbing should be well defined but not overly pronounced. I wanna see some nice curves but don't smother me baby! Size - we all know that bigger is better.
The most beautiful pumpkin I knew personally this year was Pipsqueak, see: http://www.bigpumpkins.com/displayphoto.asp?pid=6086 Who looked good enough to eat and unfortunately was.....
There were quite a few gourdgeous pumpkins grown this year but based on the criteria above - the winner clearly is:
THE 993 Vincent-McGill!!! - sorry Joe, the 1102 was a beauty but loses a few points for the low shape and partial cantelouping....
Perhaps the 993 and the 1102 should tie the knot? Beautiful pumpkins should stick together...
