I really hated to do that to you. No one has answered my seed request posts. Now, your here. Looking for back up seeds (I thought I should since this year I had a germination disaster, none came up, or did three weeks later.) 1469 werner, 1556.5 Checkon or 1354 Checkon, 1566 Rodonis. Thanks and have a pleasant tomorrow.

Rich, I'd assume either people want to hold on to theirs, have already planted what they had, or are wanting one as well. I bet there'll be some up at auction. Good luck in your efforts. How many are you thinking of growing next year? How much footage do you get to work with??

Do you think of the reason why all those seeds didn't germanate? I don't think we can blame the seeds. BR

I'm working on that right now, I continuously have seeds germinating, trying to learn more about it. I will have 800 square ft. I plan on growing two, this past year they did'nt germinate despite buying seedling soil, I did have one come up 3 weeks later. I'm trying just black dirt right now, with no chemicals at all in it. Yes, they are great seeds, thought I would see if any were available.

Richard,
Elaborating on what BR stated....I think it would be a good idea to practice germinating A.G. seeds this winter(some that you can spare, and don't mind losing), so you'll have good success this spring, when you may want to germinate some prized seeds for growing out in the patch.
Good luck in your search.

I think you will find the black dirt may be more likely to rot them and the dirt can harden up and hold them in the soil to long. I have great success with a cheap styrofoam cooler with a heat lamp over them. I run a sensor in there and keep it 85-90 and they bust out fast.

Richard, one question, how old are you?

I strongly suggest sprouting THEN putting into dirt; you have more control over conditions and can monitor the seed better.

I've got tons of 'practice seed' if you drop me an email Richard, I'll send you an address for bubble.

I'm 45 years old, why is the child in me shining thru, gotta stay young you know. You really did'nt think there was anything to do with a lady from a beauty pageant did you. Have a extra 1068 Wallace for me. Thank You for the practice seed offer, I have plenty of them.

Richard B., just for fun you can perhaps try this method
i brought to light that always works for ME
when i wanna test germinate some seeds.
also, if i do have trouble with germination in the
spring, it sometimes saves me:

PS---i have NOT had good luck with Miracle Grow seed starting mix to sprout-in, OR to transfer to,
so i use Jiffy-Mix only in the peat pots anymore. EG

Reimer Seeds will not give you their seed guarantee if you try to start stuff in Miracle Gro mix...

I use a commercial potting mix, BM-1... nursery mix. It has a drawback of needing to be soaked for 24 hours before use but it is rock steady after that.

I cut the sides on 1 gallon nursery pots then tape with duct tape and line with newspaper. This breaks down faster than the peat pots, and has shown me less root stress.... I just untape the pot, lift out the plant root ball wrapped in the newspaper and put that all in ground.

Richard-
back up seeds are more varied and harder to pin down than the 1st string. There are as many reasons to pick back up seeds as there are seeds.
Many plant their own seeds as back ups. so as not to waste hot seeds.
Others use hot seeds as back up to ensure a hot line up.
Other look for as close as possible to the 1st string- genetics wise, other production wise. etc.
you get the idea.
As some have suggested practice seeds should help.
Hope you have a better go at things this year.

Richard. You have the opportunity to belong to a VERY local club, have access to some of the best seeds in the world (more than you could ever plant) and some of the most knowledgeable growers in the world.

There is nothing to germinating seeds. You are making it too difficult. 1/3 sphagnum peat moss, 1/3 vermiculite, 1/3 perlite. Moisten until you can barely squeeze a drop out of a handful. Drop in seed and keep at 85-90. Done.

You know how to get a hold of your local club members. I'd suggest you do so. It is pretty apparent you are striking nerves here.

I love this, a guy tries a second attempt at getting some prized seeds, and the whole post turns into a lesson on how to germinate seeds.
