Ok...I finnaly found some manure. These people had a huge pile. It was 6 foot tall 10 fott wide and 20ft long. It has some sawdust but I found some worms in it which is good. This stuff is light and fluffy. When we scooped it some was gray and hot. It almost has a peat moss consistancy but it is not. I put 6 inches on my some of my small patch. My question is ...Is this stuff good.
Also one more thing. Anyone know how deep a mantis tiller can till?

One problem is that it might rob nitrogen from the soil. There should not be many weed seeds in it because it has gotten hot. Just get a soil test done in the spring.

THE TIME TO ASK "IS THIS STUFF GOOD" IS BEFORE YOU PUT IT DOWN. DITTO TO A SOIL TEST.
A MANTIS TILLER IS ONLY GOOD FOR A COUPLE INCHES OF THE SOILS SURFACE. NOT GOOD.
BORROW OR RENT A GOOD REAR TINE TILLER

It would be so easy to take it off should I move it to side?

I used horse manure that contained sawdust (chips)last year that I "thought" was composted enough. Robbed my nitrogen BIG TIME!!!

A mantis will go 6 inches if you bury the shield on it. Its not very easy on it though. I agree with Pap a good rear tine tiller is the way to go. The one I have is reversible so I can rotate the times forward to get a fine texture or reversed to break hard or new ground.

peep, i used manure with wood chips, barely could see them, last fall. suppose to be aged, it robbed my patch of all its nitrogen. couldn't grow any pumpkins in that section of my patch this year. i worked this hole season to get that area back to where it should be. just be carefull!!

Would it help if I planted some kind of legume for cover crop. Also I could just push nitrogen when I need it?

Your right nic...You said you where looking for some manure... The farm aid at the place I was at yesteday said there was the holy grail of poo piles in pataskala. She said it was at some horse stable. She said it was 20ft tall 15 foot wide and 40 ft long.
