Hi,
Is there anyone willing to tell me how they germinate their seeds? Can Pumpkin seeds be germinated during this time of year for practice?

File sides of seeds without touching growing point of seeds. Then soak couple of hours in luke warm water. Place seeds bitween moist papertowel in 80-90 degrees. Keep moderate moist and seeds should germ between 24-48 hours.

Im just done with my germ test by this method. Minimum risk of molding when germinating between papertowel. When roots forming place on pot. Good luck for practising.

Put germinating in the site search box. I'm practicing germinating right now, can't help but get better at it.

Isn't germinating seeds this time of year, like ice fishing in the summer?

Out of 102 pumpkins I germanated in 2008 eight failed! I took a grinding stone and AG seeds. Soaked seeds for 10 minutes in 3% hydrogen peroxide solution. Then grinded off edge of seed from 1/16th of inch of point all the way around the seed to within 1/16th of inch other side of seed. wrap in wet but not dripping paper towel and put into baggie. Put in a warm are 85-90 degrees for three to five days. Then plant 1-2 inches deep in a 4 inch peat pot which has 1/5 sand, 1/5 potting soil, 1/5 compost manure, 1/5 coffee grounds, and 1/5 peat. I know that others have thier formula and will disagree with me about the coffee grounds but this is what works for me!

Shannon, you prbly won't get nearly as wet, and for new folks...fine tuning the germination process is probably a great idea...especially if they have an incredible seed to grow next spring!!! Peace, Wayne
PS..hoping that Richard's suggestion shows what the edge of the seed looks like when properly filed.

I file the edges a bit, soak for a couple hours, into a damp paper towel (just enough water to make it pliable), into a plastic baggie and then into the Tivo cabinet. Check it twice a day for a root. Once the root is barely showing it goes into the prewarmed potting mix. I have a plastic bin I put a light bulb in which keeps it in the high 80s and I put the dirt in there to warm it beforehand. I buy use regular premix potting soil (no ferts in it) and add a significant amount of additional perlite to it to keep it from being too wet.

You are better to try now than hope later.
