Ive seen some pumpkin cross's out there this year that I think might be some good ones, which 2008 cross do you guys like?

I like the 1689 Jutras x 1631 Mckie cross that has been done this year myself, I remember when the two biggest pumpkins was crossed a few years back and it ended up doing real well.( 1446 Eaton x 1402 Larue)

There's a few folks who made that cross and reverse Brooks and I think they will get to see lots of dirt. There are a few that I like including Joe's 1306 and Phil Hunt's 994.5- 842 Eaton x 898 Knauss.

I like the 1385 Jutras X 1207 Young. Mr. Werner and Mr. Young did this cross. Maybe someone did the reverse cross?
The pollinators for the 1385 and 1207 are the two heaviest pumpkins ever grown(1689 and 1662 respectively). Both the 1385 and 1207 had great results their first year out.
Man, us guys are either up late or up early? In my case, I'm up late...have the day off tomorrow.

1207 young x 1306 jutras = 1071 Treadway 08
1306 Jutras x 1207 Young = 1038 Treadway 08
1207 Young x 985 Werner looks good too

1073 Carlson / Petersen x 998.

From what I've seen the 1073 can grow a WR pumpkin. We know what the 998 can do. The 1073 has a tendency to go heavy.

1536.5 Van Kooten (1142 Van Kooten x 998 Pukos) went 9.1% heavy
1367 Sherwood (1028.5 Sherwood x 1502 Wallace) went 3.8% heavy
767.5 Duffy (227 Leland x 1041.5 McKie) went 9.2% heavy

I'm sure there are some others, too...but it's like a kid in a candy store looking at all the good crosses made this year...

I just did a very quick check of pumpkins over 1000lbs listed on the GPC list, a familiar pattern appears. 998 Pukos,1068 Wallace and crosses with one or both are easily the most dominant. I know there are several that I missed, there are many others with 1068 or 998 in the mix, these are just the ones that seemed to jump off the page.

998 Pukos-12
1041 McKie-12
1566 Rodonis-9 ( not including Steve's )
1385 Jutras-10
1689 Jutras-7
1502 Wallace-6
904 Stelts-5
1207 Young-4
1470 Wallace-3
1092 Martin-3
1631 McKie-2
893 and 1096 Privitera- 1 each

A notable exception is the 985 Werner with 10 over 1000lbs. Also anything with 1370 Rose in it, like the 985 Werner,1308 McKie and 227 Leland did very well. So to go back to Brooks original post, the 1689 x 1631 and reverse crosses look pretty good.

1556 Rodonis x 1689 Jutras and not just because they were two of the biggest pumpkins in 2007. From growers I've talked and posts I've read both have proven to be trouble free plants and both have produced a high percentage of big offspring in 2008.

My dream cross has always been the 985 Werner into the 664.5 Liggett, but I could never get both to survive at the same time in the patch. However, this year I crossed the 985 and the 1524.5 Liggett both ways. Both went heavy to the charts.

many great crosses to choose from but this i know.

other than a couple 1068 seeds we have left i will never again plant a seed with a reputation for dill rings and really odd shapes.

when ya plant these types you are already at wish and hope from the begining.

Dan, is the 1180 Krug X 1068 Wallace the one that grew the 1370.5# that the groundhog ate? If so, that gets my vote. I also think 1068 Papez X 1096.5 Privitera is a good one also.

Can somebody help me to get the e-mail adress of Steve daletas??

We think that our 1187.5 (1689 x 1631.5) & our 1156 (1631.5 x 1689) will do very well in 2009. I know we'll plant at least one, maybe both next season. We all know what happened to the 1400# cross.
