saturday will be a huge day in the short but success filled history of your southern new england giant pumpkin growers.
a world record or two from one of our directors for a third year in a row is an amazing achievement that is certainly within reach. will it happen? we will find out saturday wont we?
one might ask how is this possible? what are their secrets? what do they know that i dont?
truth be known if you read our newsletters then you know what we know. we dont hide anything. we get a kick out of helping one another especially when you all live within driving distance of each other.
we share all our knowledge in newsletters and i believe the rest is just rewards from the mighty pumpkin gods, along with a good selection of seeds that produce, and a tireless attitude in the patch.
we share and help others and sometimes this comes back around to you. thats the real secret.
if you stick around long enough at this hobby then sooner or later you will be rewarded as well.

Pap and SNGPGA people,
I joined the club (although I am a Keystone state grower) last year at this time and the results speak for themselves.
Twelve years of growing, UOW's with 879 (squash and pumpkin) and my best official weight was 803. So far this year I grew an unofficial 879, my personal best of 820 weighed in at Cooperstown. My new personal best should be weighed in this weekend at Bradley Farms with of all seeds, a 1502 Wallace.
Why am I telling you this? Your club newsletters. Those newsletters are worth every nickel that is spent. Full of "Useful" information, these newsletters are chocked full of tidbits like why we use mychorizzal Fungi, composting, etc...
This group also runs the Orange Angel Foundation that supplies coats to less fortunate. Not just pumpkins..
FOr those of you out there who do not belong, I HIGHLY reccommend a membership to the group. You will see results if you put their newsletters, friendships, and advice to good use.
Good luck at Freirich Farms, it should be exciting to watch the results come in.
I know Pap or Steve will give directions on how to join.

Good Luck guys the world is watching...I think the early press was beneficial to all. I've never seen more civilians (non pumpkin growers) more aware of a large pumpkin in the northeast..they may not have the weight right or the state right but they know someone is growing a big un....In ten years of growing this is the first time I've heard that. I think the GPC will get more press this year because of the anticipation, then waiting till they're picked and showing them. We might be on to something...Sandbagging might not be best for our sport. GrowEmBig! Chuck

Good luck to all of you, Dick. You, Steve C, Joe, Steve Sperry, Pete and Ron have always been there to answer questions, share seeds and offer advice. I have seen how hard you work at your obsessions and to see it pay off is great. Keep it up and best of luck tomorrow. I will let you know when I am going to bring my fruit to the Big E so you all can stay away. I may have a chance then.

Good luck, my weigh off is the same day here in the UK, I am passing a milestone too, it is the first weigh off I have got a Pumpkin to. I am nervous too. The time zone thing means mine will be weighed while most in NE are just waking so I will be watching with interest tomorrow night ( here)

The Beast was Harvested today. She is sleeping tonight at Frerich Farm., with some other very big entries. The Today Show taped her being harvested and followed her down the Highway to Frerichs. With there anchor newscaster "Steve Hartman" they will video tape the Frerichs weigh-off on Saturday. It is all being aired by CBS on 10/31 Halloween night, acording to their producer.
