Hello Steve , when the stump is foaming, how sort of disease is? pytium, ecc or?
to put Aliette in the soil around the stump, can help?

Could just be too much water uptake and no place to go. My started to do this when i dead headed all my vines on the same day...

Can be I have had a circle of my drip watering sistem around the stump, this is a lesson

There is a number of reasons that can cause a stump to rot and foam. Every stump that I have ever seen stinks and is rotting - the foam generally smells like sweet fermented vegetable matter. My experience is that more often than not - saturated subsoil or a stump split has been the cause. However - there are all sorts of diseases that can cause the stump to become unhealthy -thereby it starts to foam. i think the foam is not part of the initial problem or disease - rather a symptom of a rotting stump. Just my thoughts...
