First off I would like to say congrats. I due have a question or two about this record. I have been following this compititon in the south and I think that more info is needed on this fruit if it is going to be considered a state record. There are no pictures of the blossom or stem to show if it is a solid punkin. The picture on the scale shows the lifter on it. I like the notary, but all she has to do is notarize that the fruit weighed 960, not that it was a solid fruit. Who inspected the fruit, were there any agriculture people there? That scale is a truck scale geared forsemi, even one % off is 250 lbs or more. I don't want to take anything away from Jason, but would this record stand in Rhode Island or Ohio? Could a world record be weighed like this? Would the growing community stand for this as a record?

John and all thanks I worked reallY hard this year. Its a solid pumpkin and I plan to plant its seed next year. Its weight is real and we did all we could to prove it. I remember something about the Florida record and people disputing it but I never did or would. I have my head up high and proud of my pumpkin. I just want to say thanks I mean it all... thank you I wish I could have broke a thousand and I could have in one more week. I wish I could have went to Kentucky but couldnt afford it but I should have went and got second place and would have paid for my gas. Well thank you

Let me start by saying that I don't believe the man's integrity is in question. A question you may have to ask yourselves is; If I were the current State record holder, would I object to using such a scale? Let's face it, competitions are won in less than five pund increments. I do believe there is some validity to concerns over that pumpkin holding the state record title. That scale looks as if it it used at a sand and gravel pit. In what increments is that scales accuracy? That type of scale is commonly only accurate in 20 pound or greater increments which leaves a lot of room for error. I would suggest getting that monster to a better scale asap.

Some else wrote this but I woudl have to totally agree:
My first question to a GPC Rep was: Why doesnt the GPC step in? This is the perfect case for the GPC to show that they are a governing body and voice for the growing community. There should be guidelines set for growers that cannot get fruit to a weigh off. In my opinion, they should step in at this point and really need to, if not, what is the GPC really here to do?....Give out fancy ribbons? Start with this case, vote for or against, but do something. These guys are supposed to be the pkn police, time to clean this up.

Hey Jason, I sort of knew this was gonna happen. You see Northern growers have had it great all these years. I mean how many REALLY big pumpkins come out of the south. Well guess what southern state records are being broke all over. South Carolina, Ga, N.C. I belive TN and Kentucky. Now I know that we havent caught up with the northern growers YET, But we are catching up FAST. I mean some of the things that we have to over come just to GROW these giants in the south are crazy. But we are figureing it out REALLY REALLY FAST. I think within the next 5 years I thinks a World Record Contender , CONTENDER I say will come from below the Mason Dixon line. So watch out!!!Jason keep your head up high, and don't worry about a this fuss. If you think this is bad wait till you beat some of the big timers, shoot they will pull out microscope. For now I will go, singing...."if heaven aint alot like dixie"..

Congrats Jason.
I also agree that Mike was probably not taking a personal shot at Jason. Don't read too far into a message board.
I also don't believe the GPC has any jurisdiction here. As long as the scale is certified to within 2% I believe that Jason has everything covered.
I will however admit that I have already been wrong once this year as pointed out the other day by a grower...so I must be right :) Haha.
Congrats again.

SCTROOPER what does Northern growers have to do with anything? This has to be one of the craziest posts i've read in a while. This is about providing concrete data for a questionable blossom end and scale. Lee's was on a scale, a 4 x 4 a truck scale used for gravel pits with small stones still on the scale, not showing the full scale is questionable for a state record. I know Jason worked extremely hard, we all do, no one is taking away from that, no one has tried to. Damn Trooper you are still fighting a war that ya lost a long time ago......let it go, it has nothing to do with the north....lmao

I would hope that the grower would be honest but as I have read on this pumpkin site people have filled pumpkins with water and done all kinds of other dishonest deeds...Pictures all around...top bottom stem and bloom would be nice if one is not going to have it weighed at GPC weigh-off! There are standards in place and they should be followed! Someone needs to police all of us! We all need to be accountable. Those who are golfers understand being honest even if it means you don't win. Now I don't know Jason and I am not saying he was in any way less than truthfull. What I am saying is that documentation through photos and eyewitness testimony would have made this all go away!

Tom, You wait just a minute dummie, First of all I havent lost ANY WAR. Neither have you. "lmao"...There is nothing about my post thats neither CRAZY or hard to understand, well for most folks. If the scale weither its a truck scale or BATHROOM scale says 960 then 960 it is. There were judges there, if something was wrong then they should have fix it FIRST. So tom, go fish out the Tea from the harbor and remember Lee surrendered not us.

As a southern grower on the west coast, I can relate to the scale questions. Many growers in the south are too far away from big weigh offs or can't afford to travel so far. When you get a big pumpkin, it raises the question of where to weigh it and will it be honored as a true weight. I do not know how a truck scale works for smaller objects, so I cannot comment on the scale. I know it is a lot of work to grow a large fruit in high heat southern conditions, a true congratulations in in order. And I do not believe northen growers to be jealous of a southern fruit. Rules for accuracey and fairness should be in place. When I grew the heaviest pumpkin in san diego county, I rented a 4 foot by 4 foot certified scale that I brought to the house and had weighed with many witnesses. Similar, yet different than a semi truck scale. All I know is that it is hard to weigh a record fruit on your own when no weigh offs are close.

Trooper, Tom was right on in his post. As a state trooper you should welcome a full investigation into the mater,, And the simple truth of the mater is a Southern pumpkin will be a chalenger to at WR about the same time I see pigs flying! The conditions are just not ideal for a HUGE AG down "South of the mason dixon line" Pull out your microscope, telescope, whatever,,its not a NORTH south thing. A state record should be able to stand up to some scrutiny to be legit. And CONGRATS JASON, awesome big pumpkin!

Awesome job on growing the new record in your state. I just don't know why this thread went this way. The man grew a big pumpkin,It is not the largest weighed in under the GPC as it was not a gpc site, bottom line is he grew a biggie, worked his tale off and has something to show for it. Give the guy a little time to enjoy his achievement at least. Are we not doing this for the enjoyment and comradery?

Auston, I somewhat agree with duster. Its kinda hard to get to some "certified" scales around here. I think the folk that broke the record in S.C. this year had to go to and ag event..It really is difficult..This is my feelings on things, Don't wait until the record gets posted to start investigating things. If the scales or anything wasn't right then the whole event should not have been held UNTIL the right equipment was found and used...."WR When I see flying pigs", now I know your kinda playing but this proves my point, You really don't belive that a WR contender with come from down south..I truly belive they will, we are overcoming alot of problems that we have to deal with from what I understand.

Trooper wouldnt that be Dummy? There can be such a thing as a bunch of dummies, for example: "only a bunch of dummies would post something as ridiculous as you have" or "did you see those northerners, the bunch of dummies are always trying to stop the south from getting decent fruit weighed" (we do that in our spare time when we are not voting Lib/Demo, because everyone knows that pumpkins should be a highly political hobby) I mean.... even a dummy should know that.... What does "But just like some other folks on this board NOW YOUR GROWN UP" mean anyway? Wheeeeewww....you win...lol....it's not fair when you can't even comprehend what you are saying. If there are pictures around to prove both ends and such looked intact, if a trade certified scale was used, and in this case a notary verifies the weight... it should be taken... or the GPC needs to take the issue up of how to accept a non-sanctioned-non-weighoff weight.
Mine got the go-over with blade of grass and zip tie and went on trade scales... one also went on a bathroom scale and that one weighed lighter than the trade scale and I took the lighter weight TO BE FAIR.
If we can't congratulate Jason... then maybe the issue needs to be taken up for those that can't drive to a weighoff for whatever reason. I personally would be willing to pay a 'listing fee' if I had one I couldn't get to a weighoff yet wanted it reported.

And I will say it took you longer than I thought for you to correct my spelling and grammer, NEVER FAILS. When folks like you don't have anything else to add or get backed down, you always pull out the dictionary. And with all my spelling errors and bad grammer, you sure figured out what I was saying, in between laughing of course. You see DUMMY my post was not entended to ALL NORTHERN growers as your trying to imply, just dummys like you. I don't belive growers down south would have ever had the recent success without alot of guys up north helping us out. It just seems funny to me that whenever someone from the sticks does good, THE VETERAN GROWERS, I mean the really really big timers never say a word, because there happy that the sport is growing. But it never fails no name comes alone and puts him down and challenges his weight, judges or PUMPKIN all together. So put all your books down Einstein and tell Jason your sorry and job well done."lmao"

Wow...lol.... you went from northern growers, to a political post, now to dictionarys, you must have a real inferiority complex, I wish Jason felt half as bad as you do for his record. I think if you put half as much effort into growing as you do trying to prove that Jason grew a record, you could have a record yourself. Now, after you get done ranting and raving.....when did I put Jason down?...lol....and why would I have to apologize to Jason? You are so busy trying to prove some kind of conspiracy that you cannot focus on what is going on. No one accused anyone of anything, alot of growers have questioned the scale...questioned it......not accused....read back.... I dont need to sit at my kids computer, I have a big boy computer.....LOL.... You ask if I laugh alot....mostly at your expense lately...you are entertaining to me, a source of humor when I am bored, ya know, the kind of days where I have to decide if I should watch another rerun of He-Haw or reply to the insanity.....you win the decision. SCTROOPER, its like this, that scale doesn't meet the standard required if you want to claim you grew a new record of any kind. The resolution on a scale that size isn't good enough. Period, thats the point.
He clearly knows how to grow a large pumpkin. I don't think anyone is trying to take that from him. If it is the new record I hope he gets it to a proper scale ASAP and he gets the record he deserves.

Andy H, you don't suprise me at all. Not in the least. Your word isn't worth a penny in my book. And you know just what i'm talking about. North Shore your game is up, I have spoke to no less than 5 people who know all about you and (andy)...A guy last week emailed me about your whinning and crying on this board for a while. But he did warn me. He said and I quote "even though he will make jokes and call people names, you better not do it to him. Because you see hes a baby and will tell the admins on ya". End Quote But I told him I was well aware of your or shall I say YALL'S game. And LIpumpkin if you take a ticket to a judge in SOUTH CAROLINA that YOU have recieve along with an internet post expect not only to pay your ticket but explain why you have waisted his time. Now that I have said that, I can see that anytime that someone doesn't like my response or disagree's with my way of thinking my occupation is gonna be brought up. Grown men don't know how to discuss things without childish threats being made. Because you see IF I threaten someone, or spoke my mind fully someone would ask the admin's to remove me or say that i'm acting out of character for a "lawman". LOL, thats just plain silly. Not one time have I posted anything on this board that was shall I say contraversal with out "TROOPER", being trown up in my face. And it's always the same 4 or 5 guys. Now I love speaking my mind, but it does seem like you guys are always throwing this up EVERYTIME you have nothing else to say, or get back down. Some folks can speak and agree to disagree and some can't including the few above. I can see that this is gonna be a continueing thing here and it's not gonna change. So with that I will continue to moitor the hobby of growing AG's and will no less continue to learn as much as possible. But responding to you folks I will not. Thanks so everyone who emailed me with all your kind words and warnings.
