Hi everyone
Due to blossom end splits we have pretty much stopped watering our plants. We haven't watered in about a month. Every time we did they would split worse, and eventually it was right into the blossom itself. We did get all that rain recently, and both plants got wet a little on one of those days. It started to split again after that, but I'm wondering if we should start watering a little, just a little, around the stump maybe, until the weighoff next Saturday. I'm wondering if the pumpkin will go light if we don't water, and also I'm wondering if the pumpkin would be "tougher" for the ride to the weighoff if it's gotten some water. Go ahead and laugh at these silly thoughts but it's what keeps me up at night lol. Anyone got an opinion or experience with this?
Thanks Kel

I would think that you will go light depending on how long it has been off the vine. I cut one about a week and a half ago since it had stopped growing. I kept it in the back of my garage under a blanket. I used it at a golf tournament that I put on Saturday. I had a guess the weight raffle to help us raise some more money. My local transfer station scale put it at 160#. According to the OTT measurements it should have been 212#. I am not saying it lost that much due to being off the vine, but I think it added to the loss. You probably have nothing to lose by leaving it on and lightly watering. I have two I have left on even though they have stopped growing, just keep them hydrated. Keep in mind this is my first year, but I am sure others will weigh in on this subject.

I dont think watering a little will hurt you and I also doubt it will help you. Give it a little if it makes you feel better. I think % heavy comes from genetics mostly.
