my pumpkin has stopped growing, the plant is dead and i have 2 more weeks til the weighoff.
it is currently still on the vine.
no rain coming in the next week, with a dead plant, it still needs water, correct?
i am clueless....

no need to water , just keep it covered with a sheet if frost is called for

Jeremy, A frost or freeze might damage the skin of your pumpkin and perhaps make it more susceptible to rotting or developing a soft spot. Like pap says, keep it covered on those cold nights.

Don't cover with a plastic film or plastic tarp that might be in direct contact with the skin of the pumpkin ! The cold of a heavy frost WILL go right through the plastic and begin to freeze the skin of the 'kin.
At least drape a heavy terri towel or thick wool blanket over the top and around sides.....and then consider the plastic above that if keeping rain or frost away is needed too. Weight down the edges of the tarp with bricks or stones in case night winds are blowing.

Are you suppose to cut the pumpkin off once it stops growing? I have had SVBs and disease overtake my plants, but I have left the 'kins on the vines. I have cut almost all of the vines/leaves except for the mains. Also, it gets very damp at night here in N Illinois and has been in the low 50's. I've been covering with blankets, but they are just wet in the am. Any suggestions?

I say *#@& it and go for it!!! Drain the hoses and see what happens! I have stopped watering mine. They stopped growing about 3 weeks ago and I stopped watering last week! They still seem pretty stout, so run with it!
