The WiZ needZ help.....we are going to hold our first ever RMGVG Pumpkin Regatta 08.....We are gonna float a couple of these out at Chatfield Reservoir.....Around Oct25,or 26th for all of those who would like to attend or float your own.......SOundZ like a lot of fun.
ANy got cha's to be aware of....treated just like a float tube....no registration.....??
I wanna try and put a small battery operated motor I have on mine.....
What size make the best floats?
I plan on getting wet.....Will these things sink?
Will I get fined if I put a 700 lb pumpkin on the bottom of the reservior......lol
Please Advise TheWiZ

My wife and I were planning on trying it this year. We were thinking about using a small lake by my house. Nobody watches it.

I'm about 155-160, and the fastest boat i've been in (if you're thinking of racing) was 482 before gutting it. that 482 also held a guy that was easily 30 pounds heavier than I. I have also been in pumpkins weighing 585, 715, and 567. the 715 and 567 (taped 700) were by far the steadiest because of size. all were raced with kayak paddles.
I would think you need something at least 650 if you want to strap a motor to it, considering the weight of the battery and racer.
I have seen more than one pumpkin flip. I don't think it sank even when full of water. I have remained dry and in the pumpkin each time. We'll see if my luck holds for another year.
