OK a few posts down a lot of people predicted what the maximum weight of our 2008 champion will be.
Please tell me what made you conclude that figure?
Was it a wid guess ? a dream ?, or do you have something substantial that made you write that figure in ?
By the way, i know where there is a pumpkin growing that already has the potential for a new world record. i have seen it and measured it but, do not care to elaborate because theres still ample time this season for anything to happen.
all i know is it would be a tremendous accomplishment for the grower and the sngpg to have one of its members weigh a world record three years in a row.
stay tuned or come to frerichs farm in warren rhode island on october 11th. We got several biggins this year. Hope you can make it.

Pap, given how the numbers have increased over the last even 5 years, the bar last year was raised when we had 3 in the 1600 pound range. Why not challenge that bar to 1700. Therefore, I went in the middle with 1750 and I know the experienced growers are capable of it.

Well I did read this Quote from a certain European grower..."I wouldn't want to give anything away, but I talked to a member of the RI maffia yesterday. He and one or two other growers have, together, three pumpkins pushing or already over 1600 lbs." this was a few weeks ago!!!!!

Because there are more and more people doing this. Out west has'nt had the record for a while and they have a longer warmer climate to work with. Sure it was a rough spring, but alot of that is sand bagging. Alot of heavyhitters don't keep diary's or post messages regularly, who knows whats going on with them? A few years ago 1502 was unbelievable, the record now is 1689, the same year we had a handful of 1500 pound pumpkins, not counting the damaged ones. I think its safe to say there will numbers in the 1600's, and maybe one at 1700.

I made my guess because there are so many great growers out there that surely not all of them has had the same weather at least a few will get some very nice ones thru to the weigh-offs.

Well, if you took my four pumpkins and threw them on the scale (together) you'd be pushing 1400 pounds. (We don't sandbag round here .Hahahahahahaha)

Please I hope we keep it under 1700 so I have a chance at getting a jacket for a 1400#er. Well one can dream cant he?

Not enough sunshine to break 1700 this year. Maybe not even 1600. IMHO, Joe is probably going to remain King of the patch another year.....maybe.....

i have also been told a seasoned grower on the left coast has a very very big one going. that could spell success as this time of year the west coast still has excellent growing weather.

I'm with Tremor on this - at least for the eastern U.S. I don't know what kind of weather the west had this season. I would bet the record stands another year, but I wouldn't bet the farm.

It is great to hear that there are possiblities once again to set a new World Record. Over coming obstacles be it man made, or nature induced yet still continue to improve what was once thought impossible is simply amazing.......and gives us all motivation every year to continue Grow'em BIGGER....and growers do.....simply amazing......how many will there be......iZ the real question of measurement of amaZing potential........Good Luck to all growers.......

I think 1700+ is defiantly a chance this year!! Look at last year: There were 3 pumpkins over 1600lbs, 6 pumpkins over 1500lbs, and thats what made it to the weight-offs.... I imagine there was at least a few more in that range that met zoro the pumpkin god early...
I think these big time growers are onto something.... It might be Mycorrhizal, or even some other chemical. Either way they know what they are doing and i think 1700lbs is right around the corner, and 2000lbs will be here before the next president gets impeached.
