Woke up to my 1096.5 Privitera with a 10 inch split in it. It already had a blossom end split I was nursing and taped at 723 pounds last week. Last saturday I had the same thing happen to my 1450 Wallace which was taping at 503 pounds. It happens.
Out of four I have ONE pumpkin left in the patch which is the 1306 Jutras. The 1306 lost it's main at @250 pounds and is now taping at 732#'s.
My prevoius personal Best was 608 so I'm still fairly happy.
Best of Luck Young'in!

We are getting POUNDED! We're probably getting an inch an hour right now...
We're in the southwest corner of Michigan if you'd like to check this weird weather pattern out...

Zemmie, you want instructions on how to build an ark with 55 gallon barrels? (aka pontoon style)? :)
I think Ike is going to head far enough up and over you're going to get more rain. Meanwhile we'll have nice sunny skies, again. Sigh.

I'm a little north of Marty and we haven't had as much rain. Around 3 or 4 inches. They have been long soakers with little runoff. Hopefully it will be over by Sunday.

got about 5.5" inches so far since friday with 1-3 more coming today. while looking out the window at my pumpkin under the tarp, there are 3 little birds cudling up and staying dry on my 1446 stem. it reminds me of the bob marley song about 3 birds on his doorstep that has lyrics stating, "don't worry, about a thing, cuz every little thing is gonna be alright." i am trying not to worry, but jeez, 3 weeks to a weigh off and this monsoon has me a little concerned. i am sure there are other illinois and midwest growers feeling the same concern. with an upcoming week of nice sunny days along with cool chilly nights after 7 plus inches of rain is the worst case scenario i could dream of. i will probably be leaving 2 comforters on both promising pumpkins for the entire week day and night after the rains subside to keep the internal and external pumpkin temps as consistent as possible.
