my OTT measurements on my fruit have stopped increasing a couple weeks ago due to PM.

but to this day, it is still oozing on the stem end out of the skin.

if it has finished growing, why is there still oozing coming from it?

I believe the pumpkin volume can stop but the pumpkin will still put on weight internally....the difference between going lite or heavy is what's stored inside the Volume of the pumpkin.

No ott gains, no weight gains.
Borje Gustavson in sweden grows on scale fr years now and measures growth with precision clock. He never noticed even an ounce of weight gain after volume growth stopped.

Wow, what an idea, to grow on a scale. That's awesome.

Jos, that is very interesting. Before you said that, I would have believed that a fruit would continue to hydrate on the inside even though the outside growth had stopped. At least we know the opposite is possible, that once the fruit is cut it will dehydrate (slowly) and loose a few pounds each day.

I wonder if we can get some more information? If Borje has some information on this subject, that would be very interesting.

The 847 Pinkham 2006 stopped growing a month before it was picked, had ZERO gains for that month, yet went 28% heavy.
Can't prove the thickness wasn't already there, but, it's food for thought.

milford, CT,

Maybe everyone is right...I have noticed that the fruit tend to get lumpier the last 3 weeks of the season. If these patches of growth are not in line with your taping..then..you could have no additional OTT..yet still gain weight because the pumpkin is filling in between areas that are used to calculate OTT. Just a thought!

In the Lords of the Gourds documentary what grower grew the Pumpkin on the Tampaline scale?

Does anybody have data from this grower on weight gains after the OTT has stopped increasing?
