Hi Gang! I just picked up a slightly used Stihl mister. I'm basically using the AgroK system, Scimitar, and Bayer Tree and Shrub, along with various Fungicides. My question regards personal safety. What products are you using a respirator mask for, and with what type of filter/filters? (I'd like to live a little bit longer!) Thanks in advance!

It probably isn't healthy to breathe in any kind of a substance or chemical on more than a very occasional basis. Anything that is meant to kill a bug or a fungus can't be good for your lungs. The Agro K stuff probably is fairly harmless unless you are worried about your lungs growing at an accellerated rate, which might make them burst through your chest...Oh no, that's just what it does to my pumpkins!

Kilr,
not to hijack your thread but a question for you about the mist blower, I bought one this year and have found that the mist doesn't come out like I would like it to. I was wondering if you or anyone else think that if I made the hole bigger at the plastic tank that connects to the clear tubing, that this might get me more volume of a mist? You satisfied with yours?

Kilr you can pick up a 1/2 face mask and a pair of cartridges at a local safety supply store. They should have [or order] a cartridge specifically for pesticides or an organic vapor should do it. You may also consider a dual cartridge in combination with a HEPA filter. Brand new the mask may run you 30-50 bucks with a set of filters around 30 bucks. I had some spare masks here that I hooked up other members of the SNGPG. Peter

Hi Jim ---I would suggest--never to spray with out a mask--If you face in to the sun sometime -- It will alumanate the mist in the air 1000 times what you normally see----had a neighbor that ha ha it wont hurt ya > he's dead of lung cancer Brooks--sure its not plugged--#4 to 5 on the dial covers good for us--they make 4 differnt pattern screens for the stil-- EVERY ONE --NEVER SPRAY ANYTHING THAT SPRAYS WITH OUT A MASK----

Thanks for the replies guys! I do plan on using a good respirator. Brooks, you may be able to tap and screw in an adjustable spray nozzle on your model. If there's anyone interested, there's a used Stihl 420 on Ebay right now for $9.99 +S&H. (Mister end is missing).

Us old geezers past 60 are tough! Never used a mask with my Stihl....but then again, we do not have to spray the wicked bug killers that you use out there!
