This may have been asked already, but I couldn't find too much by searching.
How would one go about keeping a pumpkin for a few weeks after cutting it open and removing seeds? I had the thought that maybe the school would want a pumpkin on display for halloween but we don't want to risk losing the seeds to rot - or the local hoodlums. Any thoughts are appreciated.
thanks Kelly

Once it's cut open it won't last but a few days tops. Just like the small pumpkins you carve for Halloween.

I usually spray my jack o lanterns with hair spray after I carve them. I spray the complete inside and out, it makes them last a little longer. The hair spray seals it making the pumpkin last a little longer.
never attempted an AG spray.

I've carved out my AG's a week before Halloween in the past and still had them be fine for a Halloween display . . . we don't get many trick or treaters here in the boondox so I usually just cut the seeds out and cut up the pumpkin on the same day.

I have cut a wedge/triangle in the fruit removed the seeds and then replaced it adding silicone. The fruit lasted for 2 weeks in the shade on display.

The cooler the weather the longer it will last.

nick sprayed fungicide into ours (never though of hairspray LOL) when taking it to a fair after it had split. open air has been getting into that pumpkin for 4 weeks now and it is still fine (displayed in yard). i think that would be neat taking it to a school (it should definitely last 2 weeks plus).
