Well I'm out! July 30: 1137.5 Crews tips over crushing its stem. Aug 20: 2nd 1137.5 Crews plant turns into mush at over 1000 lbs. Aug 26: 964 Wolf plant splits at sag line (174 circ 102 ee 102 ss). Sep 2: 1297 Ghaye fruit has dirt pushing out from underneath it...hmm gopher? Mole? Can't find any other holes around. Sep 7: strange smell exudes from under 1297 Ghaye fruit and now turning into mush (164 circ 94 ee 92 ss).

It feels strange...it's the first time in 9 years that I don't have a pumpkin. I should have known when I had to shovel snow to transplant that it was going to be one of those years. If you are a newbie, don't give up when this happens. It happens to all of us.

Wow! Sorry to hear the news. I was looking forward to seeing how much you would kick my butt in Smoky! I only wish I could get close to the numbers you put out year after year.
Better luck next year Don!

thats the great thing about this hobby. theres always next year. and its coming fast.

we get to prep early for 2009 while everfyone else is trying to figure out if their entry will still be sound in a month (lol)

we can attend weigh offs even without a entry and brow beat the newbees (lol)probing and poking arounds each entry (lol)

before you know it the auctions will begin, then the seed promos ,niagara gpc/canadian growers convention, etc.

spring will then be just arouind the corner. time to dream again.

its all good.hopefully next year will be better.

Hey, my 230 pounder thats gaining 2 pounds a day is looking better and better, it seems like there are a awful lot of growers having bad luck this year, and ending up with nothing.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. No squash this year Eddy. After last year, I was on my last fruit and I figured I better put an extra pumpkin instead. But I still have a watermelon growing...

With some luck I will see you all at the weigh off.

Don, chin up, and yeah I'm already planning next year. I have something finally worth beating (my own PB) so that's fine enough. I think my hubby's regretting in public saying I get more yard for more patch. :) A string of bad breaks I want to believe means you're going to have the pumpkin fairy smile on you and give you that scale bender next season! Good luck.
