do i have any chance , keeping this pumpkin from turning into a pile of mush , before sept. 27th ? i cut it out of the patch today and i am storing it in a insulated pole barn . I also put some calk in the split as soon as i saw it , maybe 8 hours went by before the split got calked. this is the biggest pumpkin i have ever had and would love to show it off at a local festival .....it is the 860 lb. orton 08 and was grown on a 802 kurilich seed . nice orange color and very long . Obviously the cooler the better.. The split to the cavity has allowed the air inside so the decay has already started. It's like you just carved the pumpkin for display if the weather is hot they last a week...if its cool they can go two to three...You'll smell it when it over..good luck.
