I went out to my patch this morning after the ton of rain we recieved last nite and found that my two AG's are showing what seems to be the prelude to an explosion!!! I dusted with captan, need to get the fans on them yet. I posted 3 pics in my diary wich should be up sometime today. Anyone that would like to weigh in on this one, feel free. It may be nothing, but I am nervous. TOO CLOSE to the end to fail now! Now I would love to see a temperature drop of about 15 degrees!

I got this idea from a very knowledgeable gent ( Docgipe) that used to post here quite often. He advised when a period of very heavy rain was hitting the patch, to cut the ends of some of your secondaries to bleed water out of the plant.I was out in the patch tonight doing this in anticipation of Hanna arriving.

I may be safe then, I just cut a few secondaries on thursday that I hit with fungicide and was going to burry on Friday. I would guess it is a good thing I forgot! Thanks for reminding me though. By the way, It has not stopped raining here since 8:00 a.m. That would be 11 hours of constant rain. Plus what we got in the overnite last nite and who knows how much by the time it actually stops tonite.

After Gustav dumped six inches of rain in Atlanta, my plants started turning yellow. As the leaves started to die and I cut them off, I found water puddled inside. This is my first year growing and I didn't know how to prepare for so much rain. If Ike comes this way I will try cutting the ends off of the few vines I have left.

I saw a post from "pap" that said he will water his plants before a big rain hoping that the plant will not soak up as much rain. I don't remember which thread I read that on; maybe he will see this post explain what he does again.

If you are going to be expecting a lot of rain you may want to consider covering your pumpkin. By that I mean the plant itself too, not just the fruit. I would be careful about wind, but it should be fairly easy to throw up a few tarps, especially if your plant is in a small space square-footage-wise. Whatever you do remember to cover your stump to keep it dry!
