when a pumpkins measurements have stopped increasing and the fruit has finished growing, is there any possible way she could still split afterwards?

if it splits after that time, it is because there is likely some growth on the inside.

Jeremy, I know this isnt a pumpkin, but I had a giant pear gourd that is roughly 70 lbs that I cut from the vine, and two days later it split on both sides, it split the entire length of the gourd. Even though it wasn't sitting in direct sunlight, I don't know if the sun did this or what, but it could be like Andy said and it had some growing still left inside. Maybe it had some growth left in it from the little bit of stem that remained? Its weird that it split like this none the less.
