Well, our big one is now officially known as the 1269 Hunt/08 UOW. We cut her up on Sept 1st & retrieved the seeds. This pumpkin had the stuff to contend for the WR if we had of been able to keep it together. OTT number was 393" or 1269#, with a Cir of 184" (1360# by cir only measurement). It was a beast, with nice thick walls. It had a small 2-3" blossom end split. The pumpkin was grown from our own 901 Hunt (1093 Hunt x 898 Knauss) seed. The 901 Hunt/07 was 19%+ heavy & was crossed with the 1631.5 Mckie/07 (20%+ heavy). Hopefully the heavy genes will continue in it's offspring. This is the biggest pumpkin that we've ever grown. Oh well, there's always next year. Good luck all.

Congrats on the 1269. Did it weigh exactly on chart or are you using the estimated weight?

Way to go Phil, now do people go for the 901 seed or the 1269 seed that is the question, I'm sure the other two you have will be no slouches either.

Thanks folks. It sure was fun watching it grow. We didn't weigh it, we just estimated it by the chart. I guess it should be classified as est & dmg. Nice orange color & good shape. I'm sure it would have went heavy if we could have weighed it. It had good thick walls & shoulders.

Kirk, I think the 901 is one of the 2 best cross we've ever made. Low seed count (@ 100 good seeds) though. The 1269 had @ 500 seeds in it, so there will be lots for the GVGO seed giveaway & for trading with other growers. I like the cross on the 1269 as well. The mother of the 901 was the 1093 Hunt (1068 x 842), while the mother of the 1631 was the 1041 Mckie (842 x 1068).

Ron, we still have 2 in the patch. The 1689 Jutras is @ 1000#, while the 1631 Mckie is @ 900#. We crossed these two together, both ways. Loads of promise in this cross. Hopefully they'll make it to the weigh offs. Thanks again to the wonderful folks on this site. Good luck at the weigh offs.

I know you put alot of time and effort in Phil and to have a PB split this late hurts. Keep your last 2 going and hopefully you still get that PB!!! Carol and I have split 4 of 7 and our best ones have hit the compost pile before their time.

Phil it still is a PB in my books. That thing was huge. I saw it last week at Phils. This was easily a possible challenger to Joes crown. There are two of those seeds 901 seeds coming up for auction in the featured grower chat next week. The 901 Hunt 07 is in my patch next season for sure. Watch out folks Ontario has returned this year.....
