it seems in a couple spots about 2-3" from the stem that my fruit is oozing very small amounts, like the size of pencil tips.
when i wipe the ooze away, i cant even see a crack from where it is coming from.
anything i can do to help this matter?

You can paint it with a little daconil if bigger splits show up. My best pumpkin is doing the same too.

It's natural for a growing fruit. Leave it alone.

it may be natural but what causes it and why does it happen?

The skin gets tough, and the insides are growing faster than the skin. It splits to make room for the insides, bleeds a little and scabs over. Nothing you can do about it.

jeremy it happens because the fruits outer skin is getting older and harder and--------the sapping is just the age of the outer skin and the fact that the fruit is still growing. that sticky sap is normal this time of year on some pumpkins as they try and grow but the outer skin is tough (canteloping as well? )
