FYI, this seems to work for me.
As Pumpkin Splits become large splits and left untreated the pumpkin has a short life.
Once a split is observed it is dusted with Sevin and Captan, Once the split becomes a gap I dust with Sevin and Captan then fill the gap with fiber glass (from a roll of insulation ) that has been dusted with Sevin and Captan. The fiber glass is inserted to almost level and then latex caulk is use to seal the repair. As the pumpkin continues to grow I make sure the caulk doesn't crack and if it does I re-caulk to keep air and water out. This process has saved several of my pumpkins.
Now to get rid of the pumpkin killing white fungus.
