I am new to this site this year. I have made contact with about 6 growers in my area and we have had a terrible year. We reside in New England, CT and RI to be exact. How are other areas of the US fairing? Will there be any big Pumpkins this year? Some of us have lost everything and some of us have only one left. This rainy and cool night pattern has ruined a lot of hopes of what could have been...This was the first year of actually trying to grow big plants, getting an automatic watering system, getting a soil test, adding organincs, adding mychor to roots and microbes, using worm poo, alfalfa, mollasses, fish, seaweed, humic acid, liquid humate all to to produce a big pumpkin and she splits on me....other rants are welcome...

Judging by some diaries it seems people in the northeast/central Pa area are having the same issues. I haven't had rain in weeks and a few nights dipped into the mid 40s. Been a crappy year since May really. With that said I should have some nice display pumpkins if they last.

Colorado had a really hot summer but the pumpkins really liked it. Until a week ago we hadn't seen a drop of rain all summer and then we got 2-3 inches in two days. I'm hearing rumors of a lot of good sized pumpkins here this year. Our shorter growing season and cooler nights haven't allowed us to see any real big in the past but I think there might be one this year.

I have been having a terrible year with the cold May and rainy June and July. Still Jacob and I have good chances at personal bests. Then I saw the State Fair record shattered. I'm betting there will be some big ones at Anamosa in October.

We are having a :p year, I'm the only one with anything to speak of around here and I'm praying I can find 10 pumpkins here for the weighoff in Oct. [mine don't count, I'm ineligible this year] Plus trying to keep a couple going for another six weeks. So double pressure. I don't think anyone has had a normal growing year this year.
As for me, hubby said in front of witnesses I can have 1500 square feet MORE of yard next year. With that, who won't be back????

Pap is right, more plants = more work = more heartache. I had four plants last year, lost 3 of them. Had one pumpkin weighing in at 275 pounds. This year 2400 sq ft and two plants, already pulled one plant due to several issues. Still having a great season so far. I'll be back next year, hopefully with a bigger patch and more plants to loose, LOL! All good fun.
