Subject: What to do about vine borers?

It is late in the season and I found 8 vine borers in my vines, I am sure there are more in the main vines, but I don't think I should start splitting open the main vine being this late in the season. Just want opinions on what others would do! Thanks, Jim

I took a needle and stabbed through the vine were the bug was quite a few times and that killed them.
