I am growing a orange pumpkin, it is a pretty good looking pumpkin. If I clean the pumpkin with a 10% bleach solution will that effect or fade the color of the pumpkin?
Also, what else is recommended for cleaning your pumpkin?
If you have a pumpkin with great orange genetics and you grow 2 pumpkins on the same plant one shaded and one not shaded will the one that is not shaded be a more brilliant orange or will it look dull and aged?
Thanks for the Help!

Good question. I have two that are getting orange. I have them both shaded, actually covered with blankets and I wonder how they will look in about a month.

i dont think the bleach will bleach the color.
as for #2
the one NOT shaded will be more orange for a while up till the ultimate orange is achieved then they will look the same

The bleach shouldn't hurt it. We usually don't bother cleaning them until picked. Water should work unless you are worried about bacteria. Antibacterial dish soap works too. As to the pumpkin color, if one is unshaded be careful that it doesn't get sunburned. That can destroy a good pumpkin easily. Sherry LaRue
