Subject: Using a blow dryer on stem cracks

Whats the opinion on using a blow dryer in the morning to dry out the inside of a stem crack, whos done it and has it worked. Just trying to cover all my angles.

any fan to get and keep the area dry is the key, I use 24v cooling fans run off 12V batteries,no cords, easy to position, simple to move
make sure you have that fruit tarped so NO rain or irrigation can get in, I learned that lesson last year

Also, if your stem is at a downward angle, don't be afraid to drill a small hole into the bottom of it to drain water which lies at the bottom toward the vine. Be sure to drill at the point where the hollow part of the stem stops.

With osme advice from Dan and Jos this year I am fighting a stem split right now. I used a knife to slit the stem towards the vine, about 1 inch from the end of the stem. I applied powder and have been using a blow dryer on it.
I can't let one run all day, so I take 2 cigs with me, roll out about 150 yards of extension cord, and sit in the patch with the dryer. After the 2nd cig is done the stem is typically dry again. So far so good.
