Im making plans to figure out a way to lift my pumpkin onto the trailer. I cant afford the lifting ring at $159, but I can afford the strap lifter from P&P. Does anyone have another source or some ideas on a homemade lifter. I have access to a huge John Deere tractor for the actual lift. I hoping for a slunger! Thanks, Croley

I use a vewy tractor clevis to hold the straps at the top. It works fine for up to 700#, haven't had a chance to try it on larger pumpkin. For a real big one it might tend to squeeze the pumpkin too much. Hopefully I will get the chance to find out this fall, as I can't aford the ring right now also.

if you use the p&p straps, and tie the long strap around the pumpkin,,the shorter onces attached to the long one,,and lead them in to a hook then with help of a tractor to lift it should be pretty easy. With the p&p straps you might wonna double them because there pretty long.

I think I will be making one using a tractor trailer rim with straps like a normal lifting rig.

Go to the wrecking yard and get some old seatbelts they are plenty strong and use an old tire rim for the lifter part, doesn't get much cheaper than that.

if we use a rope to pull in the straps together at the bottom of the pumpkin ... why can one just use a rope to pull them in together at the top? then maybe run all the straps around a board that is in the bucket of the tractor. ? just thinking out loud here... haven't designed anything.

I used the P&P straps to lift my 1178 last year using a clevis and it worked fine.

Have pumpkin picking party. You give everyone food and they help lift the pumpkin.
