I just saw that as well. The plants were just flattened! Sorry to see that Gartmudel. If you want to save seeds, maybe you can leave the pumpkins on the plants for awhile, to get as much maturity as possible for them. I had frost kill a plant last year, and the pumpkin showed measureable growth 5-7 days afterward.

Savio Spada's plant got hit bad with hail last year. Was not quite as bad:

..but he kept on putting weight on. The damage happened at about 270 pounds, and he ended up with his 649. I guess it can't hurt to leave them for a week to see what happens.

Just saw the pictures now....that must have been some storm. Sorry to see it, your patch is very nice and you live in an awesome area.

Nice to know Jordan. Maybe Gartmudel's patch will sprout some new growth, and keep going. If some parts of the damaged leaves stay green(and not turn brown), I'd think the pumpkins could still keep growing.

Pumpkins look pretty damaged too. I hope you can make something out of it Raimund.

A good fungicide and in two weeks you will not even be able to tell the damage occured...except the scars on the pumpkins..these plant can make an amazing recovery..

I agree with Shannon, The Wiz's plants were absolutely shredded by hail a couple of years ago. Plants made a remarkable recovery...LB

Neighbor of mine had his plants shredded last year almost to the day. NOTHING came back. Pumpkin didn't grow another inch. I don't wish that upon anyone.

I feel for you Gartmudel! Like Jordan mentioned I had a similar thing last season but not quite as bad.
Shannon hit the nail on the head though, "A good fungicide" - That was a huge factor/fault with me. It wasn't too long after the hail damage that PM and who knows what else set in. The plant did seem to sprout out new growth everywhere. Hang in there, these plants are seriously TOUGH!!!

Thank you very much for all the advice. Not a single leave left (http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=93060), so I decided to clean up the patch and sow some cover crops. The pumpkins will stay on plants for some time, to get as much maturity as possible. http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=93340
Will be back next year for sure!
Good luck all! Raimund (gartenmundl)
