Would you prefer Finnish "Summer"?
Our season started nicely on May, days on low 80´s. Then it came June and July and finally August. I live in Southern Finland and we had only 3 days at 77 and most days around 65. More Northern in Finland even colder. Rain records, hail damages all over country.
We have this "greatpumpkinwar" here. About 40 people joined and started grow pumpkins with good seeds and what we have now? Four or five people are having some kind of sets, others have grown just salad. Our record holder out of game too.
I am not wining, this season has teached me lot of things how to push kins and keep them warm. Actually it seems that I have 4 pumpkins that are able to pass my pb. Looking to smash our current country rec. but this year are not mine. Good friend of mine will destroy current rec. by plenty with two greenhouse kins. hmmm, do I grow in greenhouse next year...
Weather is what it is,I know that some day when we have nice Summer we used to have before this global "warming" thing I will manage nicely. Too pity that our "war" is out of sets, rather stupid to compete when there is so much unsuccess in Finland this year.

His setup is raised at least a foot off the ground.

That would be a big help. Also heating cable would be beneficial. Heaters, etc. That would be the most expensive 1000 pounder grown probably, lol.
