Came through here today, mid day temp was 59, icy cold rain for nearly 1 hour. This type of weather can shut down a pumpkin's growth.
Anyone have any stories of this type weather coming through, and still having the pumpkin grow at a good pace? I am in fear of my best year getting shut down by this silly weather. August 8th and I feel like the leaves should be turning colors soon. It should be 83 and 60 every day and night!!!!

Its about the same here Rocky. It has started and stopped raining about 15 times today, very cold rain. Very weird weather, I keep waiting for the hail to come, but it hasn't yet.

Last week we had 8 inches of rain so growth was slowed considerably even before yesterdays storms. The last 2 days we got 7 inches of rain ...Hail..Brutal wind..maybe a tornado..today was a salvage day. So disappointed..I had 2 fruit going well ahead for a PB...may end up with nothing. last week we had 8 inches of rain so growth was slowed considerably even before yesterdays storms. Mark

This is my first year. I went out and put a blanket over my one good pumpkin , 30 minutes later it starts to rain again. I guess I'll throw it in the dryer and try again. I wish it was August in PA.

Same here. 2 inches of rain last night. Temps in mid 60's. Just 20 miles to my south they got almost 8 inches of rain in the last 2 days.

We had hail in our area two days ago. My friends patch took a hit but I didn't get it. We only live 8 miles apart. I guess I got lucky this time.

yes these last few days it feels like fall is in the air. not to worry rocky the heat and humidity are just around the corner (again) if they slowed a bit for a day or two because of the weather ? they will pick back up again pap

That's good news Steve! We sure have had some weird weather in Michigan this year...I probably check the radar ten times a day.
Marty, I'm doing the same thing...out of nowhere we get 10 minutes of driving rain at bedtime and our blankets get soaked, but it's only 50 degrees at night, so 3:30 in the morning I'm pulling the blankets out of the dryer...hehe I'll sleep after October...

When you have orange in the patch who needs to sleep? Heh. I wish we were getting rain.
I put shelters over mine so I can at least keep blankets dry when I start using them... which will be soon enough. Went to thrift store and got some and sewed a few gussets to make them fit over better. Debating getting electric blankets... and using GFI

Another hail storm just went through, beat the hell out of my remaining plant. This is my first year growing pumpkins. Four days ago I thought I was doing pretty good,74 cc at 20 days, now I just hope I have a plant at the end of the week. This hobby reminds me of my life, just when things are looking up something terrible happens. Next year will be better.

The most wet and coolest summer in Western New York in years. A circulating low has dumped nealy 1.5 inches of rain in area over past 18 hours. Can't complain though because I didn't spend time or money to construct a super mega greenhouse shelter over the patch!

Update, I got informed about how to make a pumpkinPieInShellOnVine by using electric blanket so that's out. I still swear by making a shelter OVER the pumpkin, and making sure it'll stand 60mph gusts and serious hail and buckets of rain... then I can worry a little less about it getting wet... a little less. We had hail about 10 pm but not much, just a few more air circulation holes in the leaves and pumpkins are alright. It's going to be a Looooong next few months.....
