Just wondering .....how many have terminated all side vines and main growing for the long run? How many leave a few to continue growing......Are they sides? Main? Do we want to leave a little for later or push everyting into our prize......

Also...how many cut all flowers off from here on out....?

I cut off all my flowers if their is such a thing as some always seem to spring up. Terminate all growth by day 30 and keep my eye out for the little sucker vines that never stop. thats what I'm doing but I remember a line from HH Quinn Werner that we all have to adapt to our area and how are plant grows and length of season. Hope this helps

Not yet Wiz, but if my plant touches my potato crop, I've threatened it already. Mighty close.

I'm so glad you asked that question Gary. I've been trying to decide whether to terminate all sides for a growth surge now or wait til mid month and have more plant behind fruit for a later season push. I hope some heavy hitters weigh in on this.

It might be one of those toss up questions even for the big boys or gals

Well we have terminiated alot of vines behind the pumpkin....but there are still those side vines ahead of the fruit that are growing....slowly but nicely.....We think we terminate a few but then leave a few for fresh leaves and growth until later in the year....Just wondering what the BIG Competitors would do.....

I hear ya Wiz, every vine will be done by 14th regardless. We both wait with baited breath what others say however.

I'm terminating them this week, they'll all be terminated by the end of the weekend.

I'm letting some of the secondaries before the fruit grow out awhile...keep in mind I had later pollinations...July 19-24. I'm also letting vines grow after the fruit to fill in the patch some more.

My best plant is at day 25, and I have some of the secondaries terminated. I am letting a few more grow to fill up the alloted space. I think that in about a week they will all be terminated. My patch is in a deep valley with limited sun, so I need plenty of leaves to collect light when they can.

My new rule of thumb is: terminate the first five on each side at 15'. Then, starting with day 30 for the pumpkin, terminate another one if I'm not gaining 30 pounds per day so that more juice goes to the pumpkin. Regulate the growth by chopping or allowing plant to grow. For me, this probably means that I'll chop all sides by day 40 (but I will never chop the main or the side that grows out right at the pumpkin)

I chopped all mine except the main yesterday.

Many are waiting an answer here, and I guess what I got as the best answer is all are terminated with exception of a few sides closest to the pumpkin which are let grown for some later season growth.......Kinda what I was thinking.....some late season growth...especially if the sides are growing at a fairly decent rate still......but in two weeks, Ill have everything termed on a few just to see......Good Luck
