If cantalouping is a sign of maturation, then I don't think this can be cantalouping. It started around day 8 or day 9 with sap oozing like this:

The fruit is continuing to grow well and now looks like this (day 14):

Anyone information is appreciated.

The second picture looks like it may have been sort of scratched up with a leaf stalk or something. Doesn't look like cantalouping but rather scarring/healing to me. Was it roughed up a bit as a very small pumpkin. Scars grow and grow as the pumpkin ages.

I agree with petman.

Others have said that, but I am almost certain that didn't happend. Would the pumpkin ooze from the spots where a leaf rubbed it?

If that is the case, then I can expect it to look ugly, which is fine...but no problem for growth??

Not saying you did this (but I sure have)...it kinda looks like a burn. With everything we put on them, some plants/pumpkins will react differently. I smeared gibberelic acid on my pumpkins one year and got a very similar look, while others were fine. Could have been the way the sun hit it...or the way i looked at it when finished (dunno;) It was supperficial and I don't think had any bearing on my end weight. Happy growing.

Young pumpkin skin is very tender and even resting against the main vine as a new set can create a blemish which cantaloupes later.

My new sets were put on sand on mill fabric only to have a wind storm that night get under the fabric edges and scratch the hell out of them.

Ok, thanks everyone. I guess it won't hurt the growth too much, and I don't care what they look like as long as they are big.
