Wonder if anyone has seen a magazine on giant pumpkins or giant vegies. I saw Organinc Growing in the store last night and thought it would really be a cool way to get the extreem sport of giant pumpkins to the mass communities.
Don Langevin has his books so maybe he is the one to get a new pupulication out there. Not just a newsletter but a real magazine.
Any one have thoughts on this?

I've had the same thought when looking at gardening magazines also. I don't think there's enough of a market for such a thing at this point, and your club newsletters are the best for good info.

If some published a good one with interviews with the heavy hitters I would pay a premium to subscribe.

I think it is a numbers game guys...you have to have huge numbers to sell advertising...and you have to sell advertising to have a successful magazine. 500 subscriptions wouldn't do it.

Maybe you would stand a better chance at getting a gardening magazine to have monthly section on garden giants.

The GVGO's newsletter (Grower's Vine) has been described as being like a magazine without the advertisments. It's usually 35-45 pages long & filled with interviews from some of the best growers in the World. Membership does have it's privilages. The latest one just went out. If your a GVGO member & didn't receive it yet, please email me at: [email protected] & I'll send one right out to you.
I have thought that the GPC should team up with all the clubs & produce a magazine quarterly. Each club could have 5 or 6 pages for their club to report any news from their region. Each club would be responsible for putting in a feature article every edition as well. Clubs would pay the GPC a fee for each member & the GPC would be responsible for the advertising part of the newsletter. The more advertising dollars raised, the less the newsletter would cost. Having it as a Worldwide publication would make it easier to sucure advertisments from big name corporations. Just a thought.

The antique fire truck groups do that very thing Phil. They have a quarterly magazine with several feature articles, an area for individual club news, and even a classified section. It is 40 pages on glossy, heavy weight paper...and free with membership in the national organization. I'm sure if someone was interested in heading this up, I could get in contact with some people on how they do it.

I saw a pumpkin calendar at Topsfied. I am just getting my vision back.

I like Phil's idea too. One magazine with all the clubs in would be great. I'm sure you could get some free lance articles as well.
