pap

Rhode Island

it quite simple. i think i can help

he works at it twelve months a year.he works really hard at the hobby and plants only seeds he feels will give him the opportunity for a world championship.

he tends multiple plants every year ( the percentages are in his favor when he does this )

he has his soil tested and ammended as needed.

while others are at the beach hes sweating in the patch.

if hes not adding fertalizers during the season im sure he putting something in during the fall and /or spring. everyone adds fertalizers to their patch.( in one form or another)

he checks his plants daily and also has a insect and disease program that he can rely on

interestingly enough this same description can also be used with regard to many successfull growers in the hobby today

hey you

Pap is absolutely correct. I've noticed that many of the top growers today use only a few water soluble fertilizers. Those are fish emulsion, seaweed, and chelated calcium.

Have you ever seen all the rocks in his patch. I think he uses them as fertilizer and heat sinks.

Martin, many (perhaps most) of the big ones in Europe are grown without any artificial fertilizers and without any type of fertilizer during the growing season.
