If it is running with the vine clean it up and and it will heal. Same thing happened to me.

Clean it up, keep it dry, maybe put a little captan powder on it or paint a little full strength daconil on it to prevent any fungal infection and it should still be OK.

Dig it up, clean it, trim off the infected and beg for mercy from the pumpkin goods. Not much else. I am fighting foaming stump roght right now and it sucks
