I set a new personal worst this week.
50 inch circumference... next year I'll leave the back up pumpkin on there a little longer.

Petey, couple years ago I had one abort on me at 30 days old on a 1370 Rose plant, and had one abort on me at day 22 on my 1402, both plants never had any back up pumpkins growing and all I was left looking at was green salad. (To late to start another pumpkin) I couldn't stand looking at a healthy plant with no pumpkins growing off them so I pulled the plants. Its a heart breaker when they abort at these ages, because most of your hard work in burying vines and keeping it bug free and diseased free are now a skate in the park.
Look at the bright side Pete, this wont be our last time this prolly happens, lol. I always plan on losing at least 50% of the plants I grow, this way It isnt as big of a let down when something like this happens.

Damn, sorry to hear that Pete! I have never heard of that size of a pumpkin aborting around our parts. But with 100 Degree days and not a drop of rain since April, I think we are all in dangreous and uncharted territory this year. We are approaching a once in 100 years (a lifetine) summer right now.

I had a squash plant two years ago that did the same thing Andy just described. The largest on it got to about 120 lbs before it aborted.

Sorry to hear about that Pete. Are your vines completely terminated at this point or is there a chance to still get another female that you can grow?

My pumpkin was starting to do well, I think, since this is my first rodeo, and at about 100 pounds a week ago, it seems like it stopped growing, since it has only gained maybe an inch in circumference and nothing ott. Am I finished? Why would this happen? The vines are still growing good, although the early leaves are looking lousy. Thanks for any ideas.
