I have not been to the patch in a couple days, I went up to today to check on things because we got bombed by a storm (3 inches of rain in an hour or so)needless to say things were a little tore up. I found a spotted CUC beetle just chewing a way at my long gourd (70 inches), it looked like he had been at it for a while there was about one square inch tore up. IS this typical for CUCs to attack the fruit and my big concern will they do this to pumpkins? If they will do this to pumpkins is there a way to prevent it? Sorry for the long post, any input is appreciated! Thanks

Also, What is recommended for cleaning the wound, there was already little blacks spots on the wound. I cleaned with alcohol, and hit with deconil? Will I need to dig into the fruit to remove the black spot all the way?

I had them chew on my pumpkin last year, when it was quite large. They chewed mostly in the ribs on the shoulder end.

You can use captan on the wound to dry it and keep disease away. Cuke beetles are notorious for diseases.
