Hi. This is our first year. We have two vines and somehow still have pumpkins on both lol. One is from a seed that came from a pumpkin that was just under 1400 pounds. It is growing well and fast but is only about 8 feet from stump. The second has a pumpkin that is about 10 feet from stump that is about 35 in circumfrence. however it has a second pumpkin that looks perfect that is about 13' feet out from stump. It is only a few days old. the 35" pumpkin had a small split in stem that has healed itself. Is this normal? Should we just remove this one and make 13' out pumpkin the main pumpkin. It is so hard to cull a nice looking pumpkin but we are hearing so much about position on vine that we are tempted to cull the 35" just to see why vine position is important. Any help on this is highly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Estaban, why don't you post pics of your plant and fruits. That would make it much easier to give good advice on. In a case like this you'll probably get alot of different answers. Most growers don't keep anything less than 10' out on the main vine.

hi. thank you. i did not know we could post photos in this section. i think we will keep 13' out pumpkin once we know it is set. if nothing else it will be good experiment to see what happens and the closer pumpkin is only about 12 days older. the one with eight foot out pumpkin only has one on the vine so i have no other choices on it. thanks. steve

You can't put photos in this section but you can put them in either a diary or the photo gallery. Let us know where you post them and we'll check them out. Good luck.
