I'm curious who's growing the 1290 Poirier, how it's doing for you, and what you crossed it with. Mine has a nice shape and great color, and is at 90" cir at day 23. Crossed with the 1186 Bowles.

I'm growing it(A big thank you to George and Becky). It's been a great plant, problem free and has produced a steady supply of both male and female flowers. The fruit that have pollinated for me seem to start of "torpedo" shaped with a very distinctive flat wide blossom area;they all have a very nice yellow-orange glow about them,no doubt the 500 Northrup quality showing through;). Take a look at my diary entrys to see what I mean. I too would really like to see pictures of both the plants and pumpkins of people growing it this season?

I also have a 1290 Poirier growing. It seems that my selected pumpkin has picked-up the 500 Northrup long shape which is what I was hoping for.

When deciding on a cross, I wanted to keep the orange in the line, so I crossed it with the 670 Daigle. The pumpkin is still young but right now it has a bright yellow color which should translate into bright orange color by harvest time.

The plant itself is doing well and looks healthy. It has not filled its growing area yet, but it is getting there.

I am hoping for a big and orange pumpkin with a lot of seeds;-)

I'm growing it... actually, my nine year old daughter is. Mine hasn't been so lucky. It's a smaller, slow growing plant with small vines. So far, the fruit looks blocky but has good color.

Sometimes it's just the luck of the draw. The plants next to it are huge.

I've got a 1290 going with two fruits pollinated. (selfed) They are young and only basketball sized right now.

At the end of the season I'd love us to have a 1290 seed swap. I love the look of that orange Poirier fruit, but I only have one more seed from it for next year. So I'd be very interested in swapping others for more seeds with the 1290 deep orange genetics in them. Hopefully I'll have a batch of seeds of my own to share if anyone is interested in my self-pollinated 1290 seeds.
