Try moth balls. I've used them in the past.

Moth balls work OK, use decon also....I have shove moth balls into the hole dug under my pumpkin to have the lil mouse kick it back out of the hole. Then found a bigger hole where the coyote or fox went after the mouse. Lucky for me he didnt tear up the pumpkin .

I think I will try moth balls and mouse traps and surround the pumpkin like in Lord of the Gourds!

Mouse traps are always effective. Rubber snakes are just plain funny as hell. Beachy gave me this idea years ago. I have scared more visitors out of my patch this way...

You've got to start early with a program for mice, I put Dcon in my outbuildings and Rodex in the patch.Put it in an empty container to keep dry.(Has even worked for possums!)I have found that by covering the young fruits with a towel keeps deer, groundhogs, mice, chipmunks, squirrels and everything else from gnawing on them!
