For the first time I'm growing one of my own seeds (1180 X 1068). For me it makes growing more interesting to see what a cross you made can do. Day 27 ott=225". No record breaker but fun to watch.
How are other people growing their own doing?

milford, CT,

I'm growing my 769 Lombardi (1273 Howard x Self). She's keeping up with my other fruit. Day 24..255 lbs. It looks like she is going to have the same nice color as the 769.
Next year I am planting 3 of my own crosses. It's nice growing your own knowing thst if it produces well you have plenty of seeds to grow it again if you want.

I am growing my own seed also. The 358 Fasciano(1295 jutras x 977 wallace). It is the best plant and has the biggest pumpkin in my patch. I wonder if the plant grown from your own patch produces a plant that is better adapted to your own garden environment and will yield bigger pumpkins in the long run.

I am growing my buddies 649. I would have grown mine, but my selfing last year caused me to not bother. I didn't know any better. This year I have crossed everything with the intent on only growing my own next year. I will use other growers seeds for pollination.

907 Wolf (1370 Rose x 1407 Wolf) - put in as a backup. plant took a while to get going, but has a pumpkin on the size of a lemon right now. overall, not expecting anything huge.

291* Wolf (703* Smith x 865 Mettler) - I was hoping it would be green. It isn't. nothing amazing coming from this plant.

482 Wolf (500 Northrup x 1370 Rose) - planted late and intended as a snake pattern plant. I may let a few side vines grow, as I cut back the adjacent plant. I'll be happy if i get a 300 pounder from it.

452 Wolf (500 N x 723) - wife's plant. she finally got a set, and it's a little bigger than lemon size.

1407 Wolf - later set than I wanted (pollinated the 15th), and I kept the plant to around 400 sqft, but this should finish out as one of my best this year.

We typically grow our own seeds. This year we have the 1388, 1112, 1081 and 1068 LaRue. Then we have 16 from growers all over.

I started with 1 plant my own. It did not keep up with the plants in the patch or the back up plants. It was replaced. Maybe next year it will be better for my seeds.

My 1105.5 (1407 Wolf X 1139 Sherwood), 1186.8 (1046 Bowles X 897.5 Davies), and the 1290 (1005.5 Werner X 1407 Wolf) are in my dirt and doing well. If they make Oct all will be proven in home soil. Norm is right ya gotta have faith in your crosses and grow your own.

We are growing our 901 Hunt (1093 Hunt x 898 Knauss). Plant is the largest & fastest plant we've ever had. Pumpkin has good numbers so far, but we've got a long road ahead of us.

finally got one going on my 997 shenoha 2008 (1173 macari x self) that was a late pollination and out past 30 feet due to aborts. big thick vines, massive stump, huge leaves...a real salad grower for most of the season. hopefully all that energy will now get going to the pumpkin. tomorrow will be a 15 day measurement. it hit 24 on day 10 and hope to see it top its momma by at least 3 pounds which would be nice.

growing your own seed defenitly has its advantages because the plant will be more adapted to the soil and climate, and ya never know how good of seed it is before you test it out yourself
