I have pumpkins set on a plant and the first one stopped growing after getting to softball size. The next one set further down is growing slow and steady its about the size of a football and has the same shape and look with ribs on it.My other pumpkins are smooth so this one is something I have never seen before. My question is does this mean the set pumpkin is done? Does ribbing on such a young pumpkin mean its getting ready to stop growing? It looks just like a football but is still growing all be it slowly. Thanks for all you help

my 1 plant has 2 fruit about 22"cc and both have ribs in them, the other plant has 2 about the same size and neither have ribs.

maybe it is a gentic thing.

You might try asking if anyone else is growing the same vine you are, or asking who grew the seed... if there is a tendency to the fruit ribbing early, coloring late, etc.

One of my vines this year is a sickly almost yellow, the leaves are fine, and the grower assured me that all of that batch are like that as long as the leaves are healthy normal color... the other has a really pale and sort of blockly blobby fruit, and again, another confirmed that that's what they're getting too.

So ask on message or chat if anyone else is growing the same vine you are, and compare notes.
