Hi, this is my first year growing giant pumpkins or anything really. Most of my plants are doing good, but on one I noticed some leaves were drooping near the end of the vine, so I checked, and noticed a split and some brown stuff around the split, so I cut it off just after the split. I split it open and found a small white bug inside. I checked the rest of the vines and found something similar (pictures below). Im going to wait until I get some advice before I cut this vine, since its a large one.
Im really concerned about this, because I have a good sized pumpkin with a good shape, thats at about 53in circumference at day 17, not huge, but I think its good for my first year.

you can split the vine from the top length ways and extract the borer. if you dont it will continue to eat away the vine. if its a side vine with no fruit on it then just cut away the side and dispose of the vine. if its the main vine then of course you want to save it if at all possible ------ditto with slitting the top of the vine in the area you suspect and extract rhe borer pap

I tried to to split the vine, but I just ended up cutting the whole thing, since it was only about two feet from the main vine. I noticed that those two vines were the only ones I missed when I was covering them. Does covering the vines help, or am I just not seeing them?
