I know there are quite a few folks here who also log on to the GVGO site. Back in May under the heading "How is your season progressing?
In an attempt at humor,I referred to Tom Privitera's 893 as bone lazy and Jeff Reid's 849 as a Diva. I was wrong to put a negative label on either seed. Both Tom and Jeff have been very generous to me with their time, advice not to mention seeds. My lackluster season can only be blamed on my skill level not a seed selection and my comments were a slap in the face. I haven't heard much feedback about the 849 but I know there are many out there who are having great success with the 893. Tom, Jeff- my apologies, I hope there are no hard feelings.

I am growing Tom's 893 and, so far, am happy with it. It looks like a miniature version of Joe's 1689. We had plant problems early on, so that much is our fault. Tom's cross with the 1068 Wallace seemed like a great bet, so I crossed the 1005 Mombert with it. I can only wonder what the 664.5 Liggett might have been had it been crossed this way. As most of you know, the 1005 is the mother of the 664.5.
If your comments were an attempt at humor, I am sure they were taken that way by Tom and Jeff.

No hard feelings here. I think a sence of humor is needed when growing pumpkins, has any day it could blowup or split. Oh, the happy joy of growing!lol

Tom is a great guy! Personally I think that the majority of the people here on bigpumpkins are taking themselves a little to seriously! A few people take up an offense for something innocent and the sheep jump on the bandwangon and rip a guy to shreds! I was ashamed when earlier this year a 15 year old boy posted his seeds and thier geneology not understanding that he was listing 18 of the best seeds in the world! (six seeds which had greatgeneology) The sheep tore him a new one and he probably went away saying whoa....they are one aggressive bunch of people!
I am not sure I am making myself plain....but lighten up and give everyone a right to make a mistake or give thier opinion!

I am growing Tom's 893 seed this year and it is definitely my best grower. I hope that I will be able to get another one for next year. Kathy
