I have posted two pictures on my Diary showing my stem splits. this is my first time having these and only know to put captain on them. I have bridged the main vine to be level and cut the tap roots closest to the fruit to take the stess off. Is there anything else I can do and/or is this normal. The splits are not into the pumpkin yet but very close. we have had a ton of rain in the past couple weeks and my growth is 12 inches in four days in Cir. Help this is my best pumpkin this early. thanks in advance for any help.

Master Po: Take a look at this picture it shows stem splits on one of my culls. You can see how superfical they can be if they aren't huge or into the pumpkin itself. They do a great job of healing themselves if kept dry. You can see just how much tissue is still healthy just under the splits. Hope this makes you feel alittle more at ease? http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=90785

Bumkin I found your diary pics after searching the site to make sure I am doing all I can for my splits (also due to rain) and they definitely made me feel better! Thanks!

Master Po I had 2 last year with stem splits keep the stem dry. I clean off the area of the split if it is oozing with a soft bristle tooth brush with a captan and water solution then dust the area lightly with captan and put a small fan on it to keep air circulating. This is a lot of work but it saved my 1081 Larue pumpkin last year.
